One body, many parts

Our congregation, although one body, is made up of many different parts - the Session, small Bible study groups, Adventurers, Boys’ Brigade, Catering, Choir, Crèche & Mums and Tots, Friendship Hour, Girls’ Brigade, Ladies’ Fellowship, Senior Badminton, Teen track, Touch Team, Kidzone, Mission Shop and Youth Fellowship. We work separately with different people of varying ages, yet we are all part of the bigger body of First Presbyterian Church, Saintfield. Although different, all parts have one purpose — to draw people closer to Jesus. The Mission Action Group is another part of our congregation and one of its aims is to involve all groups and ages in the work of mission. And so we would like to propose a very exciting project, one we hope will be supported by all organisations. Just have a look at this …

The Reids serve God as missionaries among the Maasai people in Kenya. They live right in the heart of Maasai Land in a village called Olkinyiei. It is an isolated location and all supplies have to be brought in from the nearest town Narok, a three hour journey along treacherous roads (especially during rainy season). The nearest hospital and decent medical facilities are in Nairobi, an even longer journey from their home. They need a sturdy vehicle. Unfortunately the 10 year old Land Rover they drive at present is giving them trouble and it is not uncommon for it to break down along the road. Imagine breaking down in the middle of nowhere with four young children at night! The Mission Action group believe that Gary and Mary need to be spared this concern—they need a more reliable vehicle. We propose that our body of 1st Saintfield Presbyterian Church, made up of its many different parts, raise the money they need to buy a good second-hand Land Rover. The cost will be approximately £10,000-£15,000. This seems like a large sum but let’s break down the Land Rover into its component parts—the engine, the wheels, the seating, the towing winch, we could go on … your organisation could be involved in this exciting project, by raising money to buy just one part of the Land Rover. Together, as the larger body, we can provide this much needed vehicle for the Reid family.

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” 1 Cor 12:12
